2019 MOONEE VALLEY CUP – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Hunting Horn and Sully look prominent and we should get a reasonable test at the trip. DOWNDRAFT (4) is an interesting runner here. Progressive though this season, winning a pair of listed races before a very solid effort in the Leger Trial at the Curragh. That's a good piece of form and he can continue to build on that here.

MR QUICKIE (6) had no luck in the Caulfield Cup. Should have been in the finish there and this is easier. HUNTING HORN (5) has raced the best in Europe this season. Couple of really good efforts amongst his form and he should relish this ease in quality.

HUMIDOR (7) is interesting tried up in trip now. He was okay last time and was set to peak on this day. SULLY (8) next best.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Hunting Horn staged a solid performance in winning here on his Australian debut. Given a good trip by Ryan Moore, racing in fourth place (behind a steady tempo), he moved up well rounding the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then went on to score comfortably, looking suited to further in a good lead up to the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m). The favourite Mr Quickie raced in fifth place on the rails before switching out and improving well (deep) from the 600m. He challenged strongly at the home turn and then fought well for second, finding the winner a bit too good. The Joseph O'Brien-trained Downdraft raced outside the leader (Shraaoh), went to the front at the home turn and then fought on well for third, when having his first start since racing in Ireland in August. Humidor raced in last place in the eight-horse field, went widest of all approaching the home turn and then battled on quite well for (2.4 lengths) fourth, the lack of a solid early pace eventually proving a disadvantage.
