Gollan to let Miami Fleiss do the talking

3 minute read

Trainer Tony Gollan is excited about the future prospects of promising filly Miami Fleiss but is not joining the rush to place the “boom” tag on the three-year-old.

Miami Fleiss bolted in by seven lengths over 1000 metres in her race debut at the Sunshine Coast on January 22 and will face a massive leap in class when she tackles the 1200-metre QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap.

A daughter of Gollan's former Group 1 winner Spirit Of Boom, Miami Fleiss is one of a number of horses the champion trainer prepares for the Black Soil Bloodstock syndicate.

Gollan is pleased with Miami Fleiss' progress since her debut win when ridden by Michael Rodd, however he is not yet prepared to talk about an interstate autumn campaign or the Brisbane winter carnival.

"She's a nice filly and she's always shown us she had a lot of ability," Gollan said.

"It's a big step up from winning a Caloundra maiden on a Friday night to a city race on a Saturday.

"It's way too early to talk about races in Sydney or our winter carnival and I'll measure it all up after she runs on Saturday."

Gollan hasn't ruled out a shot at the $500,000 QTIS Jewel over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast next month if Miami Fleiss maintains her unbeaten record.

"This is a lot stronger race than what she met at the Sunshine Coast but hopefully she'll do the job again," he said.
