Admit It has been knocking at the door in recent weeks and trainer Graham Brown believes he's found the right race for his consistent galloper to finally blow it down at Kembla Grange on Saturday.
Admit It has been runner-up at each of his past three starts at the provincials but has been getting closer with every attempt.
Brown has gradually stepped the son of Zaha up in distance in runs at Newcastle (twice) and last start at Hawkesbury where he went down by less than half a length.
He will look to end a run of near misses this weekend when he contests the Tynan Motors Mercedes-Benz Benchmark 64 Handicap (2000m).
"Everything is good with him and we wouldn't be running him if it wasn't," Graham Brown said.
"The horse is fit and well and he deserves a win after he was a bit stiff the other day at Hawkesbury.
"It looks to be a winnable race for him although there looks to be a couple of chances there.
"My bloke is very honest and will run well."
Admit It has built a strong record of four wins and five placings from 15 starts with his last victory coming back in March when the gelding was under the care of Allan Denham.
Brown transferred the horse to Denham as he battled a bout of ill-health but the trainer has been back in his Warwick Farm yard since March.
"I am getting better every day," Brown said. "I had a heart attack and about five bypasses so I sent him up to Allan for a while and he won a couple for him like he did for us."
Admit It has been allocated the topweight of 62kg for Saturday's assignment but the 2kg claim of talented apprentice Tyler Schiller will ease the burden. He has drawn one from the outside in barrier 10 for the middle distance affair.
"He will go forward like he did the other day from the draw," Brown said.
A field of 10 runners is set to line up with the race opening up on Friday following the scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Man Of Sinn.
Local trainers Gwenda Markwell (Readathon), Kerry Parker (Tampering) and Paul Murray (Devil Dan) will all saddle up runners.
Kembla Grange was rated a soft (7) on Friday with light rain predicted on Saturday with race one to jump at 12.06pm.
