A look ahead: Randwick nominations – 18th December 2021

3 minute read

While there will be no Group racing at Randwick on Saturday, an exciting field of Group class horses have been nominated to contest the December Handicap.

Returning north from a luckless Melbourne appearance, the Mathew Smith-trained Tricky Gal spearheads a competitive field of 12 nominated runners for Saturday's December Handicap (1400m) at Randwick.

In what was brutal viewing for backers of the talented mare in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes at Caulfield, the six-year-old is nominated to return to Sydney in the hopes of finding her way back into the winner's circle, for what has thus far been a luckless campaign.

Having returned in great order earlier this month when beating home subsequent Group 2 Villiers Stakes winner Brutality, the Chris Waller-trained and ultra-consistent Bigboyroy is another intriguing nomination and could be joined by stablemates Oscar Zulu and The Lord Mayor.

Saturday's $130,000 feature could also see the return of fan favourite Frosty Rocks. Both out of Bjorn Baker camp and what is sure to make for a hot tempo, the grey might be joined by fellow speedster and Group-placed Prime Candidate.

Other interesting nominations include the Chris Anderson-trained Queenslander, Profit; and Group 3 winner from the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace barn, Mask Of Time.

The Maher and Eustace team have also nominated consistent gelding The Gauch to contest the 1200m Benchmark 88, while Group 1 runner and Listed placegetter Wheelhouse will headline the other Benchmark 88 over 2000m.

Nominations for five of the 10 races have been extended to Tuesday, 11am.

Currently rated a Soft 5 with the rail out three metres the course entire, forecasted clear skies will see an expected upgrade to the Randwick surface.
