The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable is hoping Quantum Mechanic can return to the winner's list in the race the mare won her first stakes race in.

At the corresponding Friday night meeting at The Valley last year, Quantum Mechanic won her first 'black type' race taking out the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m).

Returning to defend her title on Friday night, Quantum Mechanic again has only six rivals to face off against, only this time she has drawn barrier seven of seven and has Jamie Kah in the saddle instead of Michael Walker

Following last year's Sunline Stakes, Quantum Mechanic has gone on to fill placings in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill, the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at The Valley and the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield.

"She won this race last year and then went to Sydney for the Emancipation, but somehow this year both races are on the same weekend," Kent Jnr said.

"Last year's win was her breakout Group win and she's maintained that form since."

Pleasing for Price and Kent Jnr was Quantum Mechanic's only run this campaign, a closing fourth behind stablemate Annavisto in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 5.

Kent Jnr said Quantum Mechanic had taken a lot of benefit from that run.

"It was a very good return," Kent Jnr said.

"She was probably the major closer behind Annavisto off only one trial leading in, so she has taken enormous improvement and we're thrilled with her at home.

"She's drawn seven of seven, but there looks to be good tempo for a small field, so she'll just need to come back. She needs to be ridden to travel and then finish off and she's definitely a top three player.

"Some of these mares keep improving each season, and I think she is doing that."
