Peter Moody and Luke Nolen are back in business as one of the more formidable partnerships in Australian racing.

A trainer and jockey combination best known for their association with unbeaten champion Black Caviar, Moody and Nolen teamed up to win the $10 million Golden Eagle with former New Zealander I Wish I Win.

With the exception of several seasons when Moody left the training ranks before returning to racing in 2020, they have been an inseparable team for the past 15 years.

They have combined for 32 Group One wins, with Black Caviar accounting for 15 of those triumphs.

Nolen said Moody had provided him with opportunities like no other trainer.

"He was a great loss to the sport so it was great to have him back. He has long been a part of my career," Nolen said.

I Wish I Win's victory against international competition in the Golden Eagle at Rosehill confirmed they once again have the ammunition to make an impact on the turf's biggest stage.

In a heart-stopping finish, I Wish I Win ($8.50) held off Fangirl ($12) to claim Australia's second-richest race by a nose.

Gypsy Goddess ($12) finished third, three-quarters of a length further back.

"Luke gave him a gun run today, presented him at the right time and got the job done. God bless him," Moody said.

UK raider Light Infantry, in Sydney on a hit-and-run mission, encountered trouble trying to get a proper run in finishing sixth after starting the $5 equal favourite with I Wish I Win's stablemate Chain Of Lightning.

Frankie Dettori's Australian nightmares continued when his mount, the Chris Waller -trained Welwal, finished 17th of the 20 runners.
