Double delight for trainer Trinder

3 minute read

Latrobe trainer Adam Trinder looks set to play a major role in some of the feature races over the summer carnival if the results from Wednesday night’s meeting in Launceston are any indication.

Trinder took only three horses to the meeting and finished with two winners and a quinella.

Last season's 2YO of the year, Bello Beau, picked up where he left off, zipping over 1100m in quick time to win the Invermay Newsagency Hcp.

"I'm really open minded with him, his major assignment will be either the 3YO Cup or the Newmarket, I'm just going to let the dust settle, have a look at the Goodwood in Hobart on Sunday week and just see what transpires there with the older open handicap horses, the 3YO path is the logical choice but with the set weights and penalties he gets 60 kilos, 61 with the vest. I don't know if it is the right thing to do with him, run him with big weights every week so the Newmarket may be the option down on the limit weight," Trinder said.

Bello Beau has raced six times for four wins and is undefeated in Tasmania, he was competitive at two runs in Melbourne earlier this year finishing fifth at Moonee Valley and second at Caulfield.

Runner-up Jaguar Stone hit the line hard and may have been a little unlucky not to finish closer after being squeezed at the start of the race.

"She ran well, she looks like she has added another dimension to her bow, she's a big actioned filly that is bred to predominately sprint but I just thought by her presentation  she's a chance to get to a mile, which if she could, a Guineas with black type next to it might be a good target for her."

Jaguar Stone has won three of her five starts, Bello Beau has had her measure on the two occasions they have met.

Majestic Diamond made it a race-to-race double for Trinder and owner Wayne Roser when she took out the Brisbane Street News and Lotto Class 3, 1100m, taking her record to four wins from just seven starts.

"She's always been a horse who has identified herself with good talent but we have really struggled to get her to the races, she's been a very soft boned filly throughout her early career, we had a lot of trouble with shin soreness, that's why she's lightly raced. She is going to be competitive in whatever we run her in, where she ends up she will tell us, I think she would be competitive in a race like the Lady Lynette,  whether she is Bow Mistress quality I'd probably question but if she's in good form at the time I will probably ask the question of her, " the trainer said.

Last season's leading rider Codi Jordan shared the riding honours for the night finishing with a double as did Mehmet Ulucinar. Jordan was unlucky not to have three winners, she finished a close second on the heavily backed  Just A Needs ($5.50 – $2.80) in the opening race.  Resuming from a spell, Just A Needs proved difficult to ride in the closing stages, constantly ducking in behind the winner Miss Red but does look a horse to follow on that performance.

Last season Devonport Cup winner White Hawk also showed he is getting back to best form with a fast finishing third in the Longford Newsagency Hcp over 1400m at his third start from a spell and first run back in Tasmania.
