Weekend wrap: Holder 2000th winner, Vorster with a double

3 minute read

Jason Holder had 2000 reasons to celebrate on New Year’s Eve after riding his 2000th win at Morphettville on Saturday.

Jason Holder, who has been a force in the saddle for more than 32 years was successful aboard the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained Rebel Lee who continued her brilliant form since the blinkers went on winning her third straight race before he made it a winning double aboard the Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle-trained Monseagle .

Jake Toeroek finished the year with a four-win lead in the Adelaide Jockey Premiership when Aston Rapova won his third race in succession and his fifth win from his past nine starts.

Despite facing a small field and the prospect of a lack of tempo, Aston Rapova stalked his main danger Fighting Mclaren before proving too strong in the run to the line.

"He's going great this prep,'' Toeroek said.

"I would have liked to win by further, but he got the win and that's the main thing,'' he said.

Toeroek boasted a brilliant strike-rate in December with 12 winners from just 47 rides.

Barend Vorster celebrated his birthday with a race to race double winning with the David Jolly-trained Hongbao and Yulong Patrol for Victorian horseman Andrew Bobbin.

Stacey Metcalfe was back in the winners' stall for the first time since September following injury getting Ammo Amor home at a price for Murray Bridge trainer Kristi Evans, before Gary and Dean Alexander set up what promises to be a big 2023 for the stable winning the last race of year in SA when Honey Go Lightly scored at even bigger odds.
