Jamie Edwards headed to Sandown with three good chances and left with a winning double.
Jamie Edwards picks his mark when he heads to the city and loaded up the truck with four horses at Sandown on Wednesday.
While he came away with his second metropolitan double, Edwards felt it was one day when he could have landed an elusive city treble.
Edwards scored with Prince Ziggy ($3.50) in the Lady Of Racing Finalist Annie de Morton (3000m) and Little Miss Gutsaa ($6.50) in the Spirit of Racing Award Winner Penny Penfold (1200m).
He saddled the $1.90 favourite Belmia in the Lady Of Racing Finalist Jennifer Hughes (1300m) only to see a bungled start cost the mare who wound up in third place.
Young Hostess ($31) rounded out Edwards' day finishing seventh in the Shirley Heights Equestrian Centre Handicap (2100m).
Edwards said his first city double came at Moonee Valley several years ago.
"I think old Prince Ziggy was part of that. God bless him. Isn't he a beauty," Edwards said.
"I brought four to the races today, I thought three were real good chances and the $1.90 shot gets beaten.
"That's how it is."
Edwards said he only made the decision to start Little Miss Gutsaa after her work on Saturday morning, work that indicated to the trainer she was ready to win.
"It's interesting, I only brought her here because of her trackwork on Saturday," Edwards said.
"It was brilliant, and I said to my son 'that was city class work, so we had better take her to town on Wednesday' and she's come out and won.
"Craig said before the race that this mare loves the 1300 metres here, and it's 1200 metres, so I want to give her a good kick in the guts and try and put her into the race.
"When they took each other on (the leaders), it gave her the perfect drop and she was always going to be strong late, it was whether they had gone too hard early."
