John Moloney may look to the spring with Hearcomesthestar after her Sandown debut victory.
Trainer John Moloney is banking on a tough race day debut win at Sandown proving beneficial for Hearcomesthestar.
The Cranbourne-trained two-year-old daughter of Zoustar took out the Ladbroke It! Plate (1000m) on Wednesday on a very heavy track.
Sent out the $3.10 under Damien Oliver, Hearcomesthestar defeated Austmarr ($5) by a half-length with Wallenda ($3.50) a further 1-½ lengths away third.
Moloney said Hearcomesthestar had done a big job considering she was forced to stand in the barriers while two horses were vetted before being declared late scratchings.
"She's still new to everything in life, so to stand and wait, that was a good thing," Moloney said.
"Then she had to tough it out. The second horse was up on the inside and she was needing to gallop for a while to keep at it, which she did, and I think she can gain a hell of a lot out of the race."
It is a long way from a two-year-old maiden in May to spring, but Moloney is hoping the filly may make that grade following her debut win.
Moloney said he would and see how the filly comes through Wednesday's race before deciding whether to push on for one more start or to give the filly a break.
"I'd like to see her in the spring, if she's good enough," Moloney said.
"This was only a maiden and there is a long way to go to get to that point, but we'll let her recover and let her measure up as the weeks go by.
"You would like think 1200 metres would be in her scope. She can sit, relax and finish, so you have a little bit to play with.
"I think she'll get a lot out of today, just being around the races. She had to learn to finish off, and Damien helped her through that.
"So, there could be a chance ti give her one more and then give her a break."
