Unbeaten Globe gets Valley look

A gallop at Moonee Valley under Jamie Kah has all but convinced Mick Price to head to the Feehan Stakes first-up with Globe

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper is unbeaten in four starts, winning twice at Pakenham and twice at Sandown.

Price is keen to set Globe on an ambitious weight-for-age program and has picked out the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 9 enroute to the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in October.

Globe has led and dominated his races, but Price would like to see the inexperienced galloper take a sit with the rise in grade.

And Kah gave Price some confidence that Globe would relax after sitting off Deepstrike in a gallop at Moonee Valley on Tuesday.

"Jamie Kah rode him this morning and he had a little sit off Deepstrike," Price said.

"She has ridden him in gallops, and she said he actually feels better here than he does at Cranbourne.

"Mind you it is a wider circumference here when working in a gallop at a lesser tempo, but it's a good sign leading into the Feehan.

"The problem I have with the Feehan, the mile nature of a weight-for-age race first-up, and he's still a little bit rotund, so it depends on whether you narrow down to that race or do you go another way.

"I've got to make that decision in the next week, but I'm not sure about fitness come September 9."

In the back of Price's mind is the gelding's racing inexperience as opposed to his likely opposition of experience weight-for-age horse.

But Price is also heartened to hear that the Feeham may have a healthy number of runners which may in turn provide a strong tempo.

"Weight-for-age horses are all very seasoned and do things correctly," Price said.

"He's only had four starts and is still definitely learning and the way he has raced, I don't think that is a pattern that I want to be locked into, go straight to the front and have a look around.

"It's alright in lesser races during winter, off-season, but you need to be on your game for weight-for-age races and good weight-for-age horses have a killer last furlong.

"Maybe if he is vulnerable in the Feehan, he can go to the Underwood Stakes, the Caulfield Stakes and the Cox Plate.

"Sometimes you have to take a risk on them."
