Punters have the winning hand

In the best finish of the day on Friday afternoon’s 10-race card in Hobart, Kings On Queens landed a betting plunge, scoring in a three-way photo from Princess Matoaka ($15) with Dantes ($3.90) third.

As much as $34 was bet when markets opened, but Kings On Queens was smashed to start $6.50.

The mare was a little slow to begin, but rider Siggy Carr put the horse into the race past the 600m, tracking up behind Dantes.

"I didn't want to be that far back, she just stood and jumped in the air then gets floating along, but I got on the back of Dantes, and it was a really good win so well done to Rodney (trainer Rod Seymour).

"I'm really pleased to get a winner for him," Carr said after completing an early double.

On to richer races

3YO filly Ella Dulcie will be given the chance to contest some of the feature fillies' races over the Summer Racing Festival after an impressive win in the 1400m maiden, scoring by two lengths after a perfect ride from David Pires.

Ella Dulcie has always shown ability and put the writing on the wall with a solid second placing in Launceston on 6 December.

"I had barrier one today; she can be a bit of a barrier rogue and play up at times, but she was very well behaved, jumped well, I got a lovely run behind the speed, and the heavens opened.

"She took the split and hit the line really well," rider David Pires said after the race.

Creek flowing nicely

Creek Lodge ran right up to his first-up placing 12 days ago, taking out the 1200m maiden, beating Rockierro ($4) by a half-length with La Folie Douce ($15) more than two lengths away in third.

Trained at Garden Island Creek in the state's south by hobby trainer Paul Jones, Creek Lodge ($3.40) was a little slow to begin, but a rail-hugging ride by Mehmet Ulucinar helped the lightly raced 6yo to victory.

"He gets away very slow and builds into his work and works home really well," Jones said.

Creek Lodge has raced just seven times and adds Friday's win to three minor placings.

The heavily backed Gone Global ($9.00 – $3.70) was a late scratching at the barrier after refusing to load.

Jack on track

Stratojack broke through for an overdue win when finishing best to take the 1100m maiden.

Ridden by Siggy Carr, Stratojack ($4.20) was a little too strong for Loyalty Blues ($5) and Perola ($5). Both placegetters should be winning in the near future, while the favourite Uncle's Tip ($2.60) was disappointing after looming at the 200m.

"He's been a work in progress, I think he's got ability (and) I think he likes Hobart," trainer Tammy Mollross said.

Stratojack should be handy over a longer trip, being from former smart race mare Veloce Cavallo.

"She was a good mare for me. She ran fourth in a Launceston Cup."

Glenn Stevenson took training honours on Friday with a treble. John Keys finished with two winners while Codi Jordan rode a treble, and David Pires & Siggy Carr rode doubles.
