Cross Counter Opens Favourite For 2019 Melbourne Cup

Cross Counter has been installed early favourite to repeat his Melbourne Cup success in 2019.

TAB opened the market for the 2019 Melbourne Cup shortly after the running of this year’s race won impressively by the Charlie Appleby runner.

Equal second favourites in the opening market are placegetters Marmelo, and A Prince Of Arran along with Finche, Latrobe and Rostropovich.

$15 Cross Counter

$26 A Prince Of Arran, Finche, Latrobe, Marmelo and Rostropovich all at $26

Others from $51

On Tuesday the biggest bet taken by TAB on Cross Counter to win the 2018 Melbourne Cup was a wager of $50,000 @ $10.

However one TAB customer pulled off one of the great punting wins when he outlaid just $3 and correctly picked the First 4 in order, securing the $38,020.70 dividend three times for a return of $114,062.

Cross Counter’s victory was a positive result for TAB books as opposed to the runner-up Marmelo, which would have been horrific.

Cross Counter returned $9 Fixed Odds ($12 on VIC tote, $12.20 on NSW Tote).

The biggest bet taken by TAB on the Cup was $100,000 each way on Yucatan @ $6/$2.25 but Who Shot Thebarman represented TAB’s biggest liability, in front of Marmelo and Youngstar.

Yucatan ($6-$8-$6) jumped favourite after a spirited battle with Magic Circle ($9-$6-$7.50) which saw them swap positions in betting midway through the day.
