Darley Set Teofilo's Fee For 2019

Teofilo, the sire of Melbourne Cup winner Cross Counter, will stand for 40,000 euros at Kildangan Stud in Ireland in 2019.

The unbeaten champion juvenile and dual G1 winner was a former shuttle sire as a member of the Darley roster in Australia.

By Galileo from the Danehill mare Speirbhean, he joins Shamardal (private fee) and Exceed And Excel (50,000 euro) at the top of Darley’ Kildangan roster for next year.

Cross Counter is the 15th G1 winner by Teofilo, who shuttled to Darley Australia from 2009 to 2011, again in 2013 and then again in 2016 and 2017.

Among his Australian-bred G1 winners are Happy Clapper, Humidor, Palentino and Kermadec.

His UK-bred 4YO son Cross Counter is out of the Kingmambo mare Waitress and is a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin team.

Cross Counter is one of two winners from three foals to race out of the European stakes-placed mare Waitress, a half-sister to the G3-placed mare Woven Lace (Hard Spun).

His second dam is the G3 winner Do The Honours (Highest Honor) and his third dam is also a stakes winner, Persian Secret (Persian Heights).

Cross Counter’s 2YO half brother Bali Beach (Farhh) was placed in Spain this year while Waitress has a yearling filly by Helmet.

It was a special victory for Sheikh Mohammed as he becomes Godolphin’s first Melbourne Cup winners after 20 years of and three second placings of fruitless attempts to win Australia’s major race.

Cross Counter also created history by becoming the first English-trained horse to win the Melbourne Cup for the all-conquering Charlie Appleby.

Darley unveiled its 2019 European roster with 36 stallions spread across Dalham Hall Stud in the UK, Kildangan Stud in Ireland and Haras du Logis in France.

Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) remains on the highest fee of £250,000 at Dalham Hall for the third consecutive breeding season.

Dubawi, the first UK-based sire ever to record 100 individual Group winners, has sired six G1 winners this year.

New additions at Dalham Hall include multiple G1 winner Cracksman.

Cracksman, the highest rated horse in Europe this season and four-time G1 winner, kicks off his breeding career at £25,000.

With a Timeform rating of 136, he is the highest rated horse to stand at stud in Europe since his own sire, Frankel.

Trained by John Gosden on behalf of owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer, Cracksman retired with a record of 8 wins from 11 starts for £2,803,331 in earnings. Another new acquisition at Dalham Hall is Harry Angel (£20,000) while Jungle Cat, who won the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield in September, will stand at Kildangan Stud for €8,000.

Hawkbill, the winner of the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic will cover his first book at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £7,500, while Cloth Of Stars stands at Haras du Logis for €7,500.

“To be entrusted with the future careers of two great speedsters in Harry Angel and Jungle Cat, Eclipse winner Hawkbill as well as the highest-rated horse in the world in Cracksman is a huge privilege," Sam Bullard, Darley's Director of Stallions, said.

"We will continue our policy of selling a limited number of breeding rights, and to that end we look forward to working closely with breeders as we strive to uncover the next Dubawi.”
