Nakeeta enjoying well-deserved break after gallant Melbourne Cup effort

Nakeeta is enjoying a well-earned holiday following his fantastic effort in the Melbourne Cup earlier this month.

Iain Jardine's Ebor hero was the first ever Scottish-trained runner in the Flemington showpiece and did his country proud when finishing fifth behind the Joseph O'Brien-trained winner Rekindling.

The Carrutherstown-based trainer is keen to let the dust settle before committing to future targets, but is not ruling out another trip to Australia in a year's time.

Jardine said: "He ran on the Tuesday and spent a night in Newmarket on the way back. He was back home the following Thursday and is safe and sound.

"He ran a blinder on the day. He had an awkward draw to overcome and but for that, the jockey felt he would have finished in the first three.

"Looking at the way he finished, you'd have to say he might have done, but we were delighted with the way the horse ran and he covered his costs, which is great."

Asked about future plans, Jardine said: "He's having a holiday now, so we'll look forward to seeing what he can do next year.

"We'll look to have him ready for the spring and hopefully he'll be ready to run in April/May time.

"Obviously he's high in the handicap now, but there are plenty of races he qualifies for and we'll discuss plans over the winter.

"We'll obviously think about going back to Australia again."
