Irish trainer Dermot Weld has purchased the Argentinian stayer Stivers with the view to training him for the Melbourne Cup.

Weld is proposing to form a syndicate to plan an attack on the Cup with the grey 5 years old son of Lasting Approach. Stivers has had 23 starts mostly at San Isidro and La Plata with 6 wins, 2 seconds and three thirds. He won the G3 Classico Porteño in 2018 and ran second to Sixties Song in the Copa de Oro. He was 5th in the Carlos Pellegrini last December.
